Dear Editor, I read with much interest that a special envoy from Israel is visiting the Solomon Islands and according to the Special Consular this shows how committed Israel has with the Solomon Islands and its people. As a Fijian of Solomon descent I wonder why Fiji is doing the opposite in strengthening its ties with China.

Why Israel is so interested in Solomon Islands, Australia in Papua New Guinea, New Zealand in some of the Polynesian countries, French in New Caledonia and Tahiti and China with Fiji?

Are all small island countries in the Pacific are trying to strengthened our roots or the well developed countries are trying to genuinely assist the Pacific because of our resources on land and at sea.
