The Constitutional Reform Unit (CRU), within the Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, strongly refutes an article carried by Sunday star suggesting the Final Plenary of the Congress has been cancelled due to lack of funds.
Responding to the article, Permanent Secretary of the CRU, Mr Ronald Unusi, says the media report “was baseless and misleading.”
The Sunday Star carried a story titled No Funds Congress Cancelled in its last edition.
“The Final Plenary of the Congress is set for the 30th of September and this remains unchanged,” Mr. Unusi clarifies. “The Plenary of the Congress was merely deferred and not cancelled, as reported.”
Mr. Unusi says the Joint Executive met last Tuesday and agreed to defer the meeting to the 30th September to allow Congress members in the Western and Choiseul Provinces to participate in the provincial elections on the 26th of September.
“At no time did we discuss funding as the reason for the deferment with the Sunday Star,” Mr. Unusi said.
Mr Unusi informs all congress members that the date is fixed for the 30th September and all arrangements are progressing well.
