The Solomon Islands Minister of Finance and Treasury, Hon. Snyder Rini has approved a new levy of rates and dues for the Solomon Islands Ports Authority.

The new levy of rates and dues applies to the country’s two international ports of Honiara and Noro Port in the Western Province.

The new levy of rates and dues became effective on March 30 when a Government Gazette on the approval of the new ports charges was released.

Minister Rini approved the levy of rates and dues under the Ports Act, Cap.161 and is read with section 11 of the State Owned Enterprises Act 2007.

The new levy of rates and dues now revokes the previous levy rates and dues Rules 2010 (Legal Notice No.4 of 2011).

The Solomon Islands Gazette No.17 stipulates that the rates and dues must be paid to the Solomon Islands Ports Authority whether the goods are delivered at the Honiara Port or at the Noro Port.

Under the new Ports charges, ships berthing at the Point Cruz are now charged at Gross Cargo Tonnages and not according to their lengths.
