Saturday night brought hundreds of rugby supporters and teams together at the Silent World Rugby Union presentation night, held at the Telekom Recreation area.
President of the Rugby Union Association, Brian Pongetapu, in his speech congratulated the teams, followed by an announcement that next year's league will be expanded to two divisions; division A and division B.Brian Pongetapu went on to explain that the B division will cater for the under 19 members of the various clubs. The A division will be for the senior category which will then lead to a premiership top six challenge.
Mr Pongetapu said that the initiative aims to attract more teams and encourage younger players to participate in the next season.
The current sponsor of the Rugby Association, Silent World Limited, has reassured Honiara Rugby Union Association, of its continued sponsorship for the next two years.
Also speaking during the presentation was the company's Managing Director, Slimming Merrick who stated that next year they will also increase the sponsorship package to cater for the new developments that the HRUA has planned.
Meanwhile Matangiki Rugby club snatched the first prize after winning Luapel on Friday afternoon, 26- 0.
The Matangiki team this year has won two titles which are; the leagues round robin prize of $4000 with a trophy and the top four shield competition with $6000 along with shields and medals.
