Detectives from the Serious Crime Squad in Honiara charged a man with three counts of murder for crimes committed in May 2003.

Operation Ogio was established by the Serious Crime Squad to investigate crimes by members of the Guadalcanal Liberation Front (GLF) in the Weathercoast villages of Ogio, Vasavolavola, Charikamachi, Kolokemau and the Uraghai Valley during the tension period.

After more than four and half years on the run, police charged the 25 year old male from Haliatu Village on the Weathercoast with three counts of murder yesterday.

Police will allege the 25 year old was involved in the killings of three people at Pite Village in May 2003.

Operation Ogio led police to a sawmill in the Foxwood area where the suspect was arrested after a short stand off with officers from the Serious Crime Squad and advisors from the Participating Police Force.

Detectives are still actively pursuing other suspects for crimes committed around the same period and location of these murders.

The 25 year old male was remanded in custody and is expected to re-appear in court on February 14 2008.
