The Solomon Islands Ministry of Finance has assured the heads of Government schools that their school grants will be paid early this week.
Teachers across the country have threatened to shut schools from this week if the government fails to pay the annual grants.The General Secretary of the Solomon Islands Teachers Association, Johnley Hatimoana has revealed that almost 95 percent of all government funded schools have not received their grants despite following the necessary requirements.
The Under Secretary for the Ministry of Finance, Elizabeth Kausimae, says it has prepared the funds to be transfered to the Ministry of Education.
She says school headmasters who approached her on the matter have been assured that the grant money will be made available early this week.
