The Solomon Islands community in Port Moresby is organizing two major fundraising drives towards the ongoing recovery efforts in Solomon Islands following last month’s flash flooding which killed at least 22 people and damaged property.

The first of the fundraising drive is a corporate dinner at the Crown Plaza Hotel on Thursday 8 May and the second fundraising event is a music concert at the Gold Club at Lamana Hotel on Saturday 10 May.

Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea, H.E. William Nii Haomae will speak at the corporate dinner while Solomon Islands students will perform traditional Solomon Islands dances with support from PNG’s famous Deejays band. There will also be a public auctioning of Solomon Islands artifacts during the dinner.

The concert at Lamana will include famous Solomon Islands music artists like; Paeva, Black Black, Davu, Fordy and other supporting musicians. The artists will arrive in Port Moresby on Tuesday 6 May 2014.

In the meantime, donations are still coming in from individuals, churches, business houses and PNG wantoks. The donations are currently stored at the SI High Commission office. The cargoes will be moved to the airport in the coming weeks to be airlifted to Honiara.

A bank account was also opened with Bank South Pacific for those that intend to assist with cash donations.
