The third international Christian gathering of 'Awakening the Nation' officially opened yesterday afternoon in Honiara.
Chairman of the event's National Steering Committee, Edward Ronia says the gathering brings in international and local speakers to Honiara to give teachings on this year's theme of "Kingdom Leadership and Lifestyle for Governments, Churches and Nations". Mr Ronia describes the teachings as powerful and says it should challenge the people and government of Solomon Islands. Solomon Islands is the third country to host this spiritual event which is expected to bring in over a thousand young Christians from the Pacific region, including Australia and New Zealand. ...

The Archbishop of the Church of Melanesia, David Vunagi last week paid a pastoral visit to the Renell and Bellona Province.
The visit was to consecrate a new household for the Melanesian brothers and confirm nine new members of the church in the Rennell-Bellona Province. Controversial church leader Michael Maeliau, who was expelled from the South Seas Evangelical Church last month, has requested the church to de-frock him from being a Reverend before a church congregation.
Maeliau told the media last week that he was ordained in public and the church must remove him the same way. The SSEC had earlier sent him eight fundamental points that led to their decision to expel him from the church. "My whole life I prayed and when I looked at those eight points, there is no depth, there is no substance that deserves a theological debate and I just don't want to waste my time on it." He said SSEC has expelled him from the church because of his teaching about the Glory of God and Holiness. "I want another theologian so we could talk sense. So that's...

The longest serving ordained Minister of the South Seas Evangelical Church, SSEC, Reverend Michael Maeliau, says he remains a member of the church.
This is despite the Church's announcement last month that Maeliau has been expelled from the church. In the announcement, the head of the church, Reverend Bishop Matthias Lima, said the church was severing all ties with Mr Maeliau. Reverend Lima had said Mr Maeliau is no longer a member of the SSEC Church nor a minister of the church. The Reverend Bishop Lima said the Church's stand is that Mr Maeliau's teachings and ministry has fundamental errors contradicting the church's biblical foundation. But speaking to the media in Honiara yesterday, Mr...

The South Seas Evangelical Church has expelled Michael Maeliau from the church.
SSEC's Reverend Bishop Matthias Lima says the church is "severing all ties with Mr Maeliau," further stating that "Mr Maeliau is no longer a member of the SSEC Church nor an ordained minister of the church." The Reverend Bishop Lima says the Church's stand is that Mr Maeliau's teachings and ministry has fundamental errors contradicting the church's biblical foundation. He says the SSEC National Executive Board had previously asked Mr Maeliau to repent and recant from his ministry but he had not responded. Mr Maeliau's ministry has been a long standing issue...
